Although PORA’s main function is government advocacy, efforts are made throughout the year to sponsor events with other local agencies to raise funds or increase awareness about happenings in the community.

  • Legislative Forum

In partnership with the Sun City Home Owners Association (SCHOA), PORA hosts legislative forums.  An event open to all residents and the community, local legislators (District 27 & 28 and Maricopa County) convene on a panel to give updates and initiatives for the year.  The discussion is often about transportation, water and other bills being introduced or worked on. Plenty of time is allotted for attendee questions. Forums are announced intermittently through PORA enews, social media and website. Attendees will need to RSVP due to room limitations.

  • PORA Shred-a-thon & Electronic Waste Pick-up

Invested in reuse and recycle, PORA helps seniors protect their information by offering intermittent Shred-a-thons.  Dates are announced through PORA enews, social media and other advertising.

  • A Day for Charity & Pickleball Drop

A new yearly event is a partnership with the Sun City West Pickleball club. This is a large event at which residents can purchase numbered “chances” for bright yellow pickleballs. The balls are ceremoniously dropped from a crane and the closet ball wins the highest prize. The events also included a live raffle with various fun items and entertainment. Monies raised is divided amongst area agencies and is a big fundraiser for the year. To date, the event has raised over $115,000 for the community.
